Investing With SUKUK,Educating the Nations Children

Anniversary is not all about celebration and festive parties, but it should also concern reflecting on one’s blessing through prayers and actions. With that in mind, on Bank OCBC NISP 71st anniversary in addition to expressing our gratitude to God the Almighty through simple celebrations among staff in all our offices, Bank OCBC NISP has also given back to the community.

This year’s anniversary celebration is also marked by Bank OCBC NISP’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities, through the provision of education facilities and infrastructures to one of South Jakarta’s public schools. This CSR activity, which carries the theme “Investing with SUKUK, Educating the Nation’s Children”, is also a manifestation of the investor’s concern of children’s education in Indonesia, through the Bank OCBC NISP’s SUKUK program. *This year, Bank OCBC NISP again serves as a reseller of the SUKUK Negara Ritel Seri 004 to individual investors -- the SUKUK product is a safe and syariah-based alternative investment instrument

Leaving the festivities of the anniversary celebration on the morning of 4 April 2012, Bank OCBC NISP’s board represented by Ms. Parwati Surjaudaja (President Director & CEO), Mr. Rama P. Kusumaputra (Director), Mr. Johannes Husin (Treasurer), Mr. Koko Rachmadi (Head of Syariah Business Unit) and a number of employee representatives headed to Public Elementary Schools (SDN) 01 & 02 Karet Kuningan, Setiabudi. The school and its +/-300 students, 30 teachers and 1 principal is the target beneficiary of this CSR activity.

In providing support, one of the most important aspect to be observed is that the assistance provided properly addresses the need of the beneficiary. As such, Bank OCBC NISP is assisting SDN 01 & 02 Karet Kuningan-Setiabudi, among others, in the construction of restrooms on the school’s ground and first floors. Currently the school only has a restroom on its ground floor.

“Students and teachers will no longer have to queue or climb up stairs just to go to the bathroom or to wash”, expressed the principal of SDN 01 & 02, Mr. Idris Fadhila, during his welcoming speech during the ceremony, which was attended by representatives of the board and employees of Bank OCBC NISP, teachers and students.

Other assistance provided also include repairs to the school’s sports facilities, panting of the walls surrounding the courtyard, and repairs to other facilities, and the distribution of goodie bags to all students.

As with its other CSR activities, the visit by of Bank OCBC NISP’s management’s visit were met with a warm welcome by the school, which held a simple ceremony as its main agenda for that day. However, the day’s event contained an activity that is different from similar events in the past: a “work together” participated by Bank OCBC NISP’s staff in repairing some of the school’s facilities. This act of solidarity touched the hearts of all staff, who were further moved when Ms. Parwati, Mr. Rama and Mr. Idris Fadhila also joined in for some time.

The day went by quickly before Bank OCBC NISP and Public Elementary School 01 & 02 Karet Kuningan, Setiabudi, had to say goodbye.

“We sincerely thank Bank OCBC NISP! Long live Bank OCBC NISP!” cried the students of SDN 01 & 02 ending the day’s act of solidarity.

Goodbye my young brothers and sisters … Keep on learning… so you can all be people who will bring good to this nation in the future!
We will meet again some other day...

They are Indonesia’s Children
They are the nation’s future
Let us show that we care!

Warm regards from OCBC NISP CSR team
